3 Simple Mindfulness Exercises (Free Downloadable PDF Workbook)
Living in an extremely fast-paced world full of stressors. Sometimes we forget to check in with ourselves and end up rushing through life without stopping to notice the things going on around us. Paying more attention to how we feel by bringing attention to the present moment can be a great way to improve your mental wellbeing.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is focused on bringing about an awareness of the present moment - and accepting it without judgement. It is a quality all humans already possess; you just have to learn how to access it. Taking time to become aware of your internal senses, feeling and emotions is all part of mindfulness and you can get started with our free mindfulness exercises workbook.
4 Things You Can Do to Prepare for a Mindfulness Exercise
1 - Let go
To be able to perform mindfulness effectively it’s important that you allow yourself to let things go and detach yourself from things that are out of your control.
2 - Be aware of the present moment
Mindfulness is not about thinking about the past or future, it's simply about acknowledging the present moment and being aware of your thoughts, feelings, sensations and things in the environment around you.
3 - Try another perspective
Another component of mindfulness is seeing ‘the bigger picture’ and being aware of the different viewpoints of a situation. Reflecting and taking time to acknowledge other perspectives can help you in deciding the most appropriate way to respond in certain situations.
4 - Accept things as they are
Acceptance is closely linked to letting go and mindfulness incorporates the component of acceptance. This involves accepting yourself with a self-compassionate approach, accepting events that cannot be changed and opening yourself up to emotions, feelings and thoughts you may be frightened to let in.
